A School Beyond the Horizon
The Hadza, or Hadzabe are nomad an indigenous ethnic group in north-central Tanzania, living around Lake Eyasi in the central Rift Valley and in the neighboring Serengeti Plateau, the last hunter in Tanzania
The language is classified with the Khoisan languages, primarily because it has clicks,
Every child begins with a question.
But not every child is given the chance to find the answer.
In the remote landscapes of northern Tanzania, Hadzabe children grow up with extraordinary knowledge of their land, community and traditions. Yet for many, a formal education remains beyond reach.
The nearest classroom may be far from home.
Transport may be unavailable.
Teachers and learning materials may be limited.
And for families living close to the rhythms of their ancestral lands, attending school every day can be difficult.
The barrier is not a child's potential.
It is the distance between that potential and opportunity.
Imagine a child who wants to read a book, write their name, become a teacher, a doctor, an engineer—or simply discover what they are capable of.
Their curiosity is already there.
What is missing is the opportunity to nurture it.
Bringing opportunity closer
Agama Charity believes education should reach children where they are—not ask children to leave behind who they are.
We work alongside communities to help create pathways to accessible, inclusive and culturally respectful education, helping children gain the knowledge and confidence to shape their own futures while preserving the identity and heritage that make their communities unique.
Because a child's future should not be determined by how far their home is from a classroom.
And sometimes, changing a life begins with something simple:
bringing the classroom a little closer.
EDUCATION, ROOTED IN IDENTITY
Expanding educational opportunity for Hadzabe children while honoring culture, community, and knowledge.
Education can change the trajectory of a life.
For children growing up in remote Hadzabe communities, access to consistent and relevant educational opportunities can open pathways to new knowledge, greater choice, and a wider range of possibilities for the future.
At Agama Charity, we believe those opportunities should be created with respect for identity — not at the expense of it.
Our work seeks to connect children and young people with education while recognizing the strength, knowledge, and cultural heritage of the communities they belong to.
Because progress is most meaningful when it leaves identity intact.
A LONG-TERM COMMITMENT TO OPPORTUNITY
The distance between a child and a classroom can sometimes be measured in more than kilometers.
It can be shaped by access to learning materials, educational continuity, family circumstances, infrastructure, and the realities of life in remote communities.
Agama Charity is developing an education-focused approach designed to address these barriers thoughtfully and sustainably.
Our objective is simple:
To help create the conditions in which every child can learn, develop, and imagine a future of greater possibility.
OUR EDUCATION APPROACH
ACCESS
Creating practical pathways that help children participate in education.
We support initiatives designed to reduce barriers that can prevent children in remote communities from accessing and continuing their education.
LEARNING
Supporting the foundations for lifelong development.
Literacy, numeracy, critical thinking, confidence, creativity, and practical skills can provide children with a foundation from which future opportunities can grow.
CONTINUITY
Education creates its greatest value when learning can continue.
Our approach considers the longer educational journey — from early learning through school years and, where possible, toward further education and skills development.
OPPORTUNITY
The purpose of education is not simply to pass an examination.
It is to expand choice.
For young people, that can mean pathways toward secondary education, vocational skills, entrepreneurship, technology, further study, and meaningful participation in the wider economy.
LEARNING WITHOUT LOSING IDENTITY
The Hadzabe possess a distinctive cultural heritage and generations of knowledge connected to their environment, community, language, and way of life.
We believe this heritage deserves recognition.
Our ambition is therefore not to replace traditional knowledge with formal education.
It is to create space for both.
A child can learn to read and remain connected to their heritage.
A young person can acquire new skills without losing their sense of belonging.
A community can embrace new opportunities while continuing to value the knowledge passed from one generation to the next.
Education should expand identity, not diminish it.
FROM ONE CHILD TO A GENERATION
A single educational opportunity can have consequences far beyond one classroom.
A child who learns to read gains access to information.
A young person who remains in education gains more choices.
A student who develops practical skills can participate more confidently in their community and economy.
Over time, individual opportunities can contribute to broader community resilience.
This is why Agama Charity approaches education as a long-term investment in human potential.
A PARTNERSHIP, NOT A HANDOUT
We believe meaningful philanthropy begins with listening.
Our work is intended to be developed alongside communities, local educators, partners, and other stakeholders who understand the local context.
Rather than imposing a single model, we seek to build initiatives that respond to real educational needs while remaining respectful of community priorities and cultural identity.
Listen. Understand. Invest. Learn. Build for the long term.
This is the foundation of our approach.

THE AGAMA EDUCATION FUND
An investment in possibility.
The Agama Education Fund can provide a dedicated platform through which individuals, families, philanthropic partners, and institutions can contribute to long-term educational initiatives for Hadzabe children and young people.
Rather than measuring success only by the amount given, we believe in measuring what that investment makes possible.
More children accessing education.
More young people continuing their learning.
More pathways opening beyond the classroom.
More choices for the next generation.
WHY EDUCATION
Because opportunity begins long before success.
It begins when a child is given the chance to learn.
It begins when a teacher has the resources to teach.
It begins when a young person realizes that their future can contain possibilities they had never imagined.
And it continues when communities have the opportunity to shape that future themselves.
A FUTURE WITH MORE CHOICES
The story of education is ultimately a story about choice.
The choice to learn.
The choice to continue.
The choice to explore.
The choice to build.
The choice to determine what comes next.
Agama Charity is committed to helping create more of those choices for Hadzabe children and young people — with patience, respect, and a long-term perspective.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to write their own next chapter.
